Six Ways To Stay Germ-Free

Every year we take necessary precautions such as taking a flu shot and doing the best we can against flu, cold and other viruses.  With the threat of coronavirus looming around our heads, we must disinfect ourselves and keep ourselves germ-free. Although it sounds daunting, it is not that hard. Here are some tips to help you stay germ-free.

1. Wash our hands

Our hands are the prime transmitters of bacteria, fungi, and other viruses because they come in contact with almost everything. Thus, it is essential to wash our hands frequently—the WHO also emphasizes the importance of washing hands. We touch our faces daily for about 52 times a day, transferring bacteria for about 52 times each day! We usually are in a hurry to wash our hands, which might not disinfect them properly, so it is essential to clean our for about 20 seconds with any soap, handwash, or sanitizer. Hence, wash your hands frequently to stay germ-free.

2. Maintain distance

If you are suffering from a cold, viral fever, or flu, you should stay indoors under such circumstances. You are not only risking your lives but others as well. Respiratory diseases transmit efficiently and can infect a healthy person if necessary precautions are not taken. Hence, ensure you stay indoors, and if you step out,wear a mask. The flu can spread within a distance of six feet, so make sure you maintain distance while going out. 

3. Don’t share

While the age-old saying teaches us ‘sharing is caring,’ it could turn the other way around in such challenging times. Instead of sharing your items, clean more. Disinfect your surfaces regularly with a good disinfectant. When you’re down with the flu, cough, cold, it is important not to transmit germs via your belongings. Take out time to sanitize our surfaces and avoid sharing as much as possible.

4. Boost your immune system

Our immune system acts as our shield and fights against viruses and bacteria. Boosting your immune system will help you fight these antibodies effectively. Instead of weakening your immune system with alcoholic beverages, junk food switches towards healthy eating. A balanced diet with equal portions of proteins, vitamins, and carbohydrates will ensure our body’s smooth functioning. You can also take multiple supplements to boost your immune system; make sure you consult your doctor first. Exercise when you can. Regular exercise keeps your body fit and healthy.

5. Use disposable cups, plates

If your loved one is sick or down with the flu, use disposable cups instead of regular vessels. In this way, you will stay away from the virus and take care of your loved ones. Washing the contaminated containers can also spread germs and pose a threat to you. In the case of disposable cups, you don’t directly come in contact with the virus.

6. Get a good sleep

A good night’s sleep can make or break your body cycle. Maintain a specific sleep schedule and try not to stay awake late at night. To function correctly, our body needs to get some rest. Disturbing our circadian cycle can make you feel tired and slouchy the next day, and you might even wake up a bit cranky. Also, try and wake up early with the sun. If you wake up late, you might miss out on the natural source of vitamin D, i.e., sunlight. Natural sunlight is the best source of Vitamin D. So wake up early; else, you miss out on your share of vitamins and might have to take supplements instead.
